I just got done alphabetizing my bookshelf so I just wanted an excuse to show it off! A quick tour. Top shelf, books. Bottom shelf left side, anime. Bottom shelf after Spice and Wolf, Tv seasons and movies (the Japanese text is a japanese copy of Life of Brian with a long story behind it). Finally after the Office are my absolute favorite games of all time (Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 13, 13-2, Persona 4, Persona 4 Arena, and finally GT5)
Post your bookshelf so we can criticize your choices in media! Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go over here and wait for someone to comment about the fact I have a show called "Princess Tutu".

Here's the bookshelf I built. Can't read shit in the grainy potato photo, though, can you?

I can't read what any of the books say but that is a cool ass bookshelf!

under construction:
(the ladder is holding it up— still hadn't attached it to the ceiling bracket at that point)

I didn't even notice that the tubes went all the way to the cealing!

Yeah, it's all hung on 1/2" threaded rod, mounted to the ceiling on the joists and a bracket made from square-tube aluminum. Seemed like a great idea when I thought it up, but was a SERIOUS bitch to build and hang. Especially since the ceiling's sloped.
It's far from perfect, but it sure as hell isn't going anywhere, and it still cost less than buying something prefab.

Man, that's cool as hell. You're inspiring me to actually start building half the ideas i've sketched out.

I built it shortly after I bought my place. I was desperate for shelving, everything I liked was many thousands of dollars, and I thought, hey, rather than make something stand, why not hang it?
I thought I was a genius, until I actually got to work on it. It took weeks to thread every goddamn nut into just the right place.

Maybe you should go out more often or get a job. :)

Oi, it's nice to read a book or watch a movie after a busy day at work or when it's raining or snowing outside. :)

But where is?
Race car vehicle dynamics by Milliken and Milliken
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
Prepare to Win by Carroll Smith
Internal Combustion Engine by John Heywood
Race Car Searching for the Limit in Formula SAE
by Oppos own SuperFastMatt
Race Car Aerodynamics by Joseph Katz
On second thought, nevermind.

Love the shelf. Have you posted this to Reddit's DIY section? (not that i would) But i know they would love it. I have been on a furniture building movement (coffee tables, lights, planters, stand for my iracer setup, cat beds, etc etc) and have been eyeing up some bookshelf ideas and really like yours.
I am assuming you didn't use a single threaded rod but multiple. How did you link them? Are they connected to the floor also?

I don't really like non fiction too much. Though I have been wanting to read "Go like Hell!"

Also racing in the rain.

Racing in the rain is good. Its a tear jerker if you a softy like me though. The link i put for Searching this limit it to a free pdf version on his website. Its a easy and quick read. As a FSAE die hard i am highly biased but I loved it.
You inspired me, i just ordered Go like Hell. Damn you Amazon Prime for making that so easy.

Normalish books.
Trade paperbacks and Graphic Novels
If not apparent through content, yes, I'm a nerd.
I didn't realize Howl's Moving Castle was a novel. I'll have to check it out.

Nah, never really post to reddit. The longest allthread you can get (as a regular old consumer, anyway) is ten feet. So the bottom ten feet are one piece, then there's a coupling nut connecting the long thread to the shorter thread that's attached to the ceiling/bracket. The ceiling's about 15.5' at that point, give or take a little because of the roof's slope.
The bottom is not connected to the floor, and at some points has been like slideable a little bit, but it's not really mobile. Which is not to say that it's super stable, either. A good sideways push could really rock it pretty far.

I agree, nice work! But you live in a warehouse?
You might inspire to get off my butt too. Just thinking of other materials -maybe copper pipe in place of the allthread might be easier? Alternative look anyway. Cutting and soldering instead of endless threading of nuts?

Kind of a warehouse. More like a live/work studio space.
My initial plan was more like scaffolding pipe and pipe clamps. For some reason I thought the thread hanging from the ceiling would be more elegant than a free-standing scaffold. Maybe, maybe not. But the raw, bloodied fingers after an entire day of threading those motherfuckers down pretty much assured me never to do it again.

"raw, bloodied fingers" - I think you convinced me - copper piping it is.

My neighbors were all oohs and aaahs and "can you make me one for my place, too?" I told them very clearly that it was a stupid idea, and not worth repeating.
Not to mention the weeks of fine-tuning. Just get it right the first time and be done with it.
